Tap Cancer Out brings its charity BJJ circuit to Austin for a gi-only tournament run under IBJJF rules with a few athlete-friendly tweaks, including optional rashguards and no requirement for spats under the gi pants. The 501(c)(3) nonprofit, founded in 2011, has supported roughly two dozen cancer charities since 2012 -- including the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, St. Baldrick's Foundation, and PanCAN -- and has raised more than $7.75 million for the cause through its national tournament series. The 2026 Austin BJJ Open takes place Saturday, October 3, 2026, with double-elimination gi brackets open to every belt and age division. Brown and black belts compete free, as do any competitors who raise $250 or more for the cause; everyone else can register at the standard pre-registration rate through the tournament's Smoothcomp listing.
Tap Cancer Out is a jiu-jitsu-community 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has run BJJ tournaments since 2012, channeling the sport's competitive energy into cancer fundraising — competitors fundraise for free tournament entry at gi and no-gi events for all ages and belts. Since 2012 it has supported 25 beneficiary organizations and raised over $9 million for cancer research and patient support.
Tap Cancer Out is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that runs BJJ tournaments to raise money for cancer-fighting organizations — competitors fundraise as part of registration, and event proceeds are donated. Events offer gi and no-gi divisions for kids and adults across belt levels.
On the mat, matches run under a points-based ruleset that follows familiar IBJJF-style scoring conventions, so competitors coming from IBJJF or similar events will recognize the point values and structure. Review Tap Cancer Out's published rulebook for the specific modifications in effect for your division.
Always confirm the official rulebook before you compete — organizations update rules between seasons. See the official event page for current rules.
