Mario Esfiha Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - Brasa BJJ Austin is led by Professor Mario Esfiha, a 6th degree black belt with over three decades of BJJ experience. As a founding member of the Brasa Team and a practitioner since 1988, Mario has shaped the academy with his deep technical knowledge and a commitment to authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. His background also includes experience as an ADCC veteran, judo brown belt, and US Modern Army Combatives Level 3 Instructor. Alongside Mario, the coaching staff features Douglas Curtright, a first-degree black belt, and Colin Moore, who brings USA Wrestling coaching credentials and a long history in both wrestling and no-gi grappling. The academy’s programs reflect Mario’s broad expertise and Brasa’s roots. The core curriculum centers on gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with classes ranging from Gi Essentials for new students to advanced gi instruction. Students can also train in no-gi BJJ, where the focus shifts to adapting grips and movement for submission grappling. Judo and wrestling are integrated into the training, emphasizing takedowns and positional control for both self-defense and competition.
