John’s Gym in Austin has an unusually deep coaching roster across Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, boxing and MMA. Owner John Ramseier is a second-degree BJJ black belt under Bruno Bastos who began his jiu jitsu development under six-time world champion Robert Drysdale. The staff also includes third-degree black belt Darrin Lillian under Travis Tooke, black belt Federico Suenz, and Ernesto Peralez, a third-degree BJJ black belt, judo black belt and certified USA Boxing coach. The current program includes gi and no-gi jiu jitsu, fundamentals, kids training, judo, MMA, Muay Thai and boxing. Because the instructors themselves come from different grappling and striking backgrounds, the breadth of the schedule is backed by specialized coaching rather than one generalist trying to cover every discipline. For martial artists in north Austin and nearby Cedar Park or Leander, John’s Gym makes particular sense when cross-training and instructor depth matter. Ramseier’s Drysdale/Bastos lineage and the staff’s mix of BJJ, judo and boxing credentials give the academy a much clearer identity than a generic MMA-and-fitness gym.
