Tatami’s care guide prohibits tumble drying. Kingz’s general FAQ includes a limited low-heat option. Both statements need their maker and conditions attached. Choosing a cold wash does not settle the drying decision.
The references here were checked October 23, 2026: a Tatami US Nova Competidor White product, FUJI’s US All Around White page, and Kingz’s US general FAQ. They show how to read an instruction, not how to predict every garment’s response. Keep the maker, model, region, and actual label beside the advice.

Tatami Nova Competidor Gi — White
US product page, supplemented by Tatami’s general product-care guide. The product lists 100% cotton.
- Washing
- The product specifies a 30° cold wash; Tatami’s general care guide identifies a 20–30°C range and washing inside out.
- Drying
- The product says to hang dry. Tatami’s care guide prohibits tumble drying and drying against high-temperature sources.
- Shrinkage statement
- The product asks buyers to allow for 5% shrinkage after washing. Treat that as the maker’s allowance, not a measurement of your garment.
- Keep with the instruction
- The product’s instructions and the general guide should be checked against the label on your actual gi.
Questions to resolve
- Before the first wash
- Does the label on this Nova Competidor match the current product instructions, and is its unwashed fit settled before I commit to keeping it?
- Wash settings
- Which machine setting matches the stated temperature and any instructions on this garment’s label?
- Drying method
- Where can I hang this gi to dry naturally without putting it against a high-temperature source?

FUJI All Around BJJ Gi — White
The care paragraph displayed on FUJI’s US All Around White product page. Do not treat it as the label for a different purchase.
- Washing
- FUJI recommends a cold wash. The cited care paragraph does not give a numerical temperature. It also says not to bleach.
- Drying
- FUJI recommends hanging to dry in the cited paragraph; it does not supply a tumble-dryer setting there.
- Shrinkage statement
- FUJI says preshrunk does not mean no shrinkage and claims up to one inch with its recommended cold-wash/hang-dry method.
- Keep with the instruction
- Check the product’s pre-wash return condition and the actual seller’s terms before changing an uncertain new fit.
Questions to resolve
- Before the first wash
- If this new gi’s fit is unresolved, what does my actual seller require for an exchange before I wash or practise in it?
- Wash settings
- Does the garment label add a temperature or cycle detail to the cold-wash recommendation on this product page?
- Drying method
- The product recommends hanging. If I cannot do that, what does FUJI advise for this exact garment rather than another maker’s gi?

Kingz US general care FAQ
Manufacturer-wide FAQ, not an individual model label. Kingz directs model-specific questions to its support team.
- Washing
- The FAQ recommends cold water, inside out, with like colors, and an appropriate detergent amount for the load. It says not to use bleach.
- Drying
- Kingz recommends hanging to air dry unless intentionally shrinking. For a softer feel, its FAQ permits a short low-heat tumble of 10 minutes.
- Shrinkage statement
- The FAQ distinguishes cotton shrinkage from certain preshrunk models. It does not establish the amount your particular jacket or trousers will change.
- Keep with the instruction
- The FAQ recommends washing after every training session. Confirm any model-label conflict before applying general guidance.
Questions to resolve
- Before the first wash
- What does my exact Kingz model label say, and does the seller require an unwashed item for a fit-related return?
- Wash settings
- Does the model label add any restriction to this general cold-water guidance, and what dose does my detergent specify for the load?
- Drying method
- Does my exact model permit the FAQ’s brief low tumble? If so, which setting on my dryer matches the maker’s intended low heat?

Resolve the decision before changing the garment
Use the garment’s own instructions to settle each choice before washing, drying, or changing its fit.
On a small screen, scroll across the table to read every column.
| Decision | Find the actual instruction | If it remains unclear |
|---|---|---|
| First wash | Fit check, garment labels, and the actual seller’s return conditions. | Ask about the unresolved fit before washing or practising in a new item. |
| Wash settings | Temperature, cycle restrictions, sorting, and permitted products. | Ask the maker and check the washer’s manual rather than inventing a numerical setting. |
| Drying | Permitted method and any expressly stated condition. | Arrange that method or ask the maker about the exact item; do not import another brand’s exception. |
| Fit change | The maker’s shrink statement and the method you actually used. | Describe the changed dimensions; do not treat a percentage as a tailoring instruction. |

Settle a new gi’s fit before the first wash
Washing a new gi can change the decision you still have available. FUJI’s US All Around White page permits returns only before washing or wearing the item for practice. Read your actual seller’s terms while the garment is still in its original condition.
If the fit is unclear, ask the seller before trying to correct it with heat. The gi-size guide helps identify the measurement question. Check both jacket and trouser labels; a clear photo can help the maker identify the instruction for your version.
Match the instructions to the actual garment
Start with the sewn-in label and matching model instructions. Check the storefront region and product variation as well as the brand. The references distinguish named products from a general FAQ; neither supplies a missing label for an unrelated purchase.
If the label is unreadable or conflicts with the page, ask the maker for this item’s washing and drying directions. Supply the model and label photo. Establish which instruction applies before borrowing a setting or changing the garment.
Read the temperature, cycle, and additions separately
The references preserve a numerical temperature where the maker gives one and cold where it does not. Do not turn the latter into an invented number. Check cycle restrictions separately, and use the washer’s manual to identify what the available control does.
Read sorting and product restrictions too. Use detergent dosing directions within the garment’s limits rather than adding an extra amount by habit. If the label and machine controls do not give you a clear match, resolve that specific question with the maker before starting.
Drying is its own decision
Read the drying instruction before starting the wash, especially if you need the gi again soon. Plan space for the permitted method. A limited exception is not a full dryer cycle, and one maker’s allowance does not answer a question about another product.
If the permitted method is impractical, ask the maker about that garment. Keep a time limit and its purpose attached to any alternative it expressly allows. Plan around when the item is actually dry rather than an assumed overnight turnaround.
Preshrunk is not a promise of unchanged measurements
A maker’s shrink allowance is not a tailoring calculator. A percentage does not identify exactly how your sleeves, jacket body, and trouser legs will each change, or which treatment would produce the fit you want. The references keep manufacturer statements separate from measured results.
If the fit changes after washing, describe the method you actually used and the dimensions that changed. Keep the label and instructions with that account. Give support the temperature and drying method, not only a report that you followed an online routine.
Plan washing, drying, and the next class together
Make room for the full process: getting the garment out of the training bag, washing by its instructions, and allowing the drying method to finish. Put it away fully dry and separate from used gear. An unresolved cleaning problem belongs in a specific question to the maker.
For the next visit, the clothing guide covers what the host accepts. When you change garments, check the new item’s label before reusing these settings. A routine is useful because you can repeat the right process, not because it must stay identical for everything in the bag.
Common questions
Should I wash my BJJ gi after every class?
Kingz’s published care guidance recommends washing after every training session. Plan washing and complete drying between uses, following your garment’s actual instructions. An airing interval or a fresh smell does not supply a different manufacturer-approved wash method.
What temperature should I wash a BJJ gi at?
Use the exact garment’s label and matching maker instructions. Keep any stated unit with the temperature; if the instruction says only cold, do not invent a number. Use the washer’s manual to identify the setting and ask the maker about an unresolved mismatch.
Can I put my gi in the tumble dryer?
Use the garment’s drying instruction separately from its wash setting. Keep any permitted alternative’s purpose, heat and time limit together. If the label does not answer the question, ask the maker for that model; another brand’s exception does not apply automatically.
Will a preshrunk gi still shrink?
Read the product’s own shrinkage statement rather than relying on the preshrunk label alone. Keep the maker’s allowance separate from a prediction about your jacket and trousers. Resolve a new gi’s uncertain fit before depending on an expected change.
Should I wash a new gi before checking the fit?
Check fit and the actual seller’s return terms first. Establish whether washing would affect an exchange before changing an item you may return. Once you decide to keep it, follow its care instructions and any maker direction about preparation before use.
Can I wash my belt and rashguard with the gi?
Read each item’s own label. A belt, rashguard, jacket, and trousers need not share the same temperature, color-sorting, or drying instructions. Only combine items when their directions and the washer’s requirements are compatible; ask the maker when an instruction is missing.
What if my gi still smells or has a mark after washing?
Record the method you used and ask the manufacturer for an approved next step for that fabric and color. Do not assume a hotter wash or an improvised mixture is compatible. This reference does not provide stain recipes or make claims about disinfection.
