Organized by Tap Cancer Out
October 24, 2026 in Bethpage — the Tap Cancer Out Long Island BJJ Open pairs jiu-jitsu competition with charity fundraising for cancer research, open to competitors of all belts across Long Island.
Tap Cancer Out is the BJJ community's own cancer-fighting nonprofit -- a 501(c)(3) founded in 2011 that has raised more than $7.75 million for organizations like the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, St. Baldrick's, and PanCAN since it started running tournaments in 2012. The Long Island BJJ Open follows Tap Cancer Out's signature format: gi-only, double-elimination brackets under IBJJF rules with a few relaxed equipment requirements (rashguards optional, no spats required under gi pants). This edition takes place October 24, 2026, in Bethpage, NY, open to all ages and belt levels. Brown and black belts compete for free, as do any competitors who raise $250 or more for the cause -- everyone else registers at standard pre-registration pricing. Sign up through the Smoothcomp link on Let's Roll or Tap Cancer Out's own event page.
Tap Cancer Out is a jiu-jitsu-community 501(c)(3) nonprofit that has run BJJ tournaments since 2012, channeling the sport's competitive energy into cancer fundraising — competitors fundraise for free tournament entry at gi and no-gi events for all ages and belts. Since 2012 it has supported 25 beneficiary organizations and raised over $9 million for cancer research and patient support.
Tap Cancer Out is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that runs BJJ tournaments to raise money for cancer-fighting organizations — competitors fundraise as part of registration, and event proceeds are donated. Events offer gi and no-gi divisions for kids and adults across belt levels.
On the mat, matches run under a points-based ruleset that follows familiar IBJJF-style scoring conventions, so competitors coming from IBJJF or similar events will recognize the point values and structure. Review Tap Cancer Out's published rulebook for the specific modifications in effect for your division.
Always confirm the official rulebook before you compete — organizations update rules between seasons. See the official event page for current rules.
