Claim this gymRange Brazilian BJJ NYC brings Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to Manhattan’s Upper East Side, led by Professor Eduardo Capeluto. Eduardo started his BJJ journey in Rio de Janeiro in the early 1990s and moved to New York in 2000, eventually making the neighborhood his home. He earned his black belt from Lucas Lepri in 2010 and is a fourth-degree black belt, with experience training under names like Fabio Gurgel, Romero "Jacare" Cavalcanti, Marcelo Garcia, and Lucas Lepri. Eduardo’s vision was to give the Upper East Side a real home for BJJ, focusing on careful instruction and a sense of belonging for every student. The academy is the only Lucas Lepri Association affiliate in New York City, and the curriculum reflects this technical lineage. Classes begin with a strong fundamentals program for beginners, covering core movements, positional control, and safe training habits. As students progress, intermediate and advanced classes introduce more complex techniques, guard variations, and competition-tested systems. Both gi and no-gi classes are offered for adults, with the no-gi program putting extra focus on wrestling-based takedowns, leg locks, and fast-paced transitions. Youth training at Range BJJ is divided into Little Warriors (ages 5–9) and Teen Warriors (ages 10–13), with lessons aimed at building discipline, confidence, and respect—on and off the mats. The academy also runs a women’s BJJ program, where female students can work on practical self-defense and technical skill in a supportive setting. For those with demanding schedules or specific needs, Eduardo offers private instruction through an Executive Program. Families often train together, and visitors are welcome to drop in for open mat sessions.
