Event Description
The Newbreed Miami Tropical Winter Open brings the promotion's gi and no-gi tournament format to South Florida. As with all Newbreed events, the emphasis is on athlete safety: no submissions for the youngest kids divisions, belt-based gi brackets for older youth and adults, and no-gi divisions split by experience level (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced) rather than rank, open to any gi color. This one-day open takes place December 19, 2026 in Miami, FL. It's a good entry point for South Florida competitors of any experience level, and no outside federation membership is needed to register. About Newbreed
NEWBREED (the NEWBREED Jiu-Jitsu Federation) is a US tournament circuit whose federation was established in 2012. It runs 100+ tournaments a year nationwide with kids-through-adult gi and no-gi divisions and digital bracket management, culminating in The Ultimate Grappler (TUG), its elite no-gi absolute finale.
Rules
NEWBREED runs a long-established tournament circuit (including its Ultimate Challenge events) with gi and no-gi divisions for kids and adults, grouped by age, weight, and experience level. It's a high-volume regional circuit that many competitors use for regular local competition.
NEWBREED publishes its own rulebook with an explicit emphasis on athlete safety, and technique legality scales with age and division level. Read the current NJJF rules before competing — division structures and legal techniques are spelled out there.
