Alpha Miami Grappling Jiu Jitsu in Miami was founded in 2014 by Professor Carlos Sainz, a black belt under twelve-time world champion Caio Terra. The academy’s curriculum is built around a structured approach to both gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with dedicated beginner, intermediate, and competition-level classes for kids and adults. Professor Sainz, who began his own training in 2009, is known for teaching high-level techniques to students as young as three, insisting that youth classes receive the same quality of instruction as adults. His mission from the start was to build Miami’s strongest kids martial arts team by treating young grapplers with seriousness and respect. The weekly schedule at Alpha Miami includes beginner and advanced no-gi for adults, and a full progression of kids programs spanning fundamentals, intermediate, and competition training in both gi and no-gi formats. Wrestling and striking are also offered for kids, making it possible for students to develop a broad grappling and self-defense foundation from an early age. The academy’s competition team is active, with a notable presence at events like ADCC, but the door is equally open to families and newcomers who are just starting their martial arts journey. Professor Sainz leads the team alongside a group of instructors with diverse martial arts backgrounds, all of whom have passed rigorous background checks.
