Tempe Jiu Jitsu Academy

Tempe Jiu Jitsu Academy opened its doors in March 2025 as part of the Arizona Fighter’s Foundation, a nonprofit established to provide Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training to at-risk youth and the broader Tempe community. Owner Michael Cashman, a competitor with experience in IBJJF and Grappling Industries, founded the academy to create an accessible space where people of all backgrounds can develop martial arts skills, confidence, and resilience. The academy’s roots are tied to supporting those facing financial hardship, ensuring that cost is not a barrier to learning Jiu-Jitsu. The academy’s instruction is led by Professor Meech, a first-degree black belt who emphasizes technique, fundamentals, and personal improvement over simply winning. Classes are divided between kids aged 7 to 13 and adults 14 and older, with programming tailored to both self-development and competition preparation. Kids’ classes focus on building coordination, discipline, and a strong mindset, while adult classes range from beginner fundamentals to advanced techniques, including opportunities for competitive training. Training at Tempe Jiu Jitsu Academy includes regular open mat sessions for adults, allowing students to drill and spar outside of formal classes. The facility is wheelchair accessible and located on East Broadway Road, serving Tempe and nearby areas like Phoenix and Mesa. The academy’s approach centers on steady growth on and off the mats, guided by instructors who prioritize mentoring and skill development within an authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu experience.
