Gustavo Dantas Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy was founded by Professor Gustavo Dantas, a sixth-degree black belt who has devoted more than 25 years to teaching and growing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Tempe. Professor Dantas is both a veteran competitor and a lifelong educator, and his influence runs deep throughout the school. The academy is home to more than 300 active students and is supported by a strong team of black belt coaches, including instructors with third-, second-, and first-degree black belts. Here, students benefit from a wide range of technical perspectives without needing to look beyond the academy walls. Classes at the academy cover both gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for adults, with a clear structure for progression. Beginners can start with fundamentals and mixed-level classes, while advanced students have dedicated sessions and opportunities for positional sparring and specific training. Open mat sessions are available, and drop-ins are welcome. The academy also runs a competition training program for those who want to test themselves further. For younger students, the academy offers age-grouped instruction starting with Lil & Jr. Champions for ages 5–7 and Youth Warriors classes for ages 8–13, as well as combined kids and teens sessions. Kids’ classes focus on building confidence, discipline, and motor skills in a safe and encouraging setting. Gustavo Dantas Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy is also an Arizona ESA-approved school, making it accessible for families who use Education Savings Accounts. The academy supports the We Defy Foundation, reflecting its commitment to making BJJ accessible to veterans as well.
