ALLGROUND Jiu Jitsu in Reno was founded by the Anderson family, whose history in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu stretches back over three generations. Lowell Anderson began his journey at the original Gracie Academy in the 1990s, earning his black belt directly under the Gracie family and testing his skills in the famed Gracie challenge matches. He passed his passion and knowledge on to his sons, Elias and Laird, who both grew up immersed in the art and went on to earn their own black belts after years of rigorous training. Elias Anderson achieved international recognition as a Combat Jiu Jitsu World Champion, while Laird built his reputation in mixed martial arts, remaining undefeated as a professional and competing in Bellator MMA. Their combined experience reflects not only technical mastery but a dedication to teaching and evolving the art. In 2024, the Anderson brothers opened ALLGROUND to create a place where the lessons of discipline, respect, and continuous improvement are passed forward, blending their Gracie lineage with modern grappling methods. The academy offers Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for adults and a dedicated kids martial arts program, emphasizing practical skill development in both gi and no-gi formats. Classes draw from wrestling and judo as well, aiming to provide a complete grappling education. The teaching philosophy centers on proven, competition-tested techniques and genuine investment in each student’s progress, whether their goals are self-defense, fitness, or high-level competition. ALLGROUND also welcomes visitors for open mat sessions and is fully wheelchair accessible, reflecting a belief that everyone should have the opportunity to train and grow on the mats.
