The NEWBREED Detroit Winter Championship takes place December 12, 2026 at the HYPE Recreation Center of Western Wayne, serving the Detroit metro. Gi and no-gi brackets are open to competitors of every age and belt level.
Event Description
NEWBREED returns to the HYPE Recreation Center of Western Wayne on December 12, 2026 for the Detroit Winter Championship. Gi and no-gi divisions are open to every age and skill level, from first-time white belts to black belts chasing another title. Early-bird registration closed November 22; normal registration runs to December 8 and late registration closes December 11 at 5pm. Sign up through newbreedbjj.smoothcomp.com.

About NEWBREED
NEWBREED (the NEWBREED Jiu-Jitsu Federation) is a US tournament circuit whose federation was established in 2012. It runs 100+ tournaments a year nationwide with kids-through-adult gi and no-gi divisions and digital bracket management, culminating in The Ultimate Grappler (TUG), its elite no-gi absolute finale.
Rules
NEWBREED runs a long-established tournament circuit (including its Ultimate Challenge events) with gi and no-gi divisions for kids and adults, grouped by age, weight, and experience level. It's a high-volume regional circuit that many competitors use for regular local competition.
NEWBREED publishes its own rulebook with an explicit emphasis on athlete safety, and technique legality scales with age and division level. Read the current NJJF rules before competing — division structures and legal techniques are spelled out there.
