Zangief Jiu Jitsu in Las Vegas is led by Professor Gabriel Checco, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt with over two decades of experience on the mats. Professor Checco’s journey in BJJ began in 2000, and he is known for his commitment to both high-level competition and detailed instruction. The academy also benefits from the expertise of David Gill, a fourth-degree black belt under Charles Gracie and Gary Grate, who is a multi-time IBJJF World, Pans, and American Nationals champion, and recognized as the #1 Master 4 Black Belt in the world for the 2022–23 and 2023–24 seasons. Together, the coaching staff brings a wealth of technical knowledge and a passion for helping students progress, rooted in respected lineage and personal achievement. Classes at Zangief Jiu Jitsu are designed for both adults and children, with a focus on traditional gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The adult program emphasizes practical technique, fitness, and self-defense, while the kids’ classes introduce younger students to the values of discipline, respect, and perseverance through age-appropriate instruction. The academy also offers a dedicated Taekwondo program for kids, led by Master Yamira “Yami” Valdes, a fourth-degree black belt and former state and national champion. This blend of programs allows families to train together and gives children access to both grappling and striking arts under one roof. Located on South Eastern Avenue, the facility is wheelchair accessible and welcomes drop-in students.
