Cobrinha Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Academy Las Vegas is led by Professor Hector Vasquez, a decorated competitor and longtime student of Rubens “Cobrinha” Charles Maciel. Professor Hector earned his black belt under Cobrinha, one of the most accomplished featherweights in the history of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and brought years of experience from the Cobrinha Headquarters to Las Vegas. With multiple world titles—including five World Championships, five American Nationals, and four Pan American titles—Professor Hector has built the academy around the technical and competitive standards of his mentor. The academy offers structured Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu programs for both adults and children, with a strong emphasis on gi fundamentals and advanced training. Students progress through the curriculum with attention to detail and competition-tested techniques, reflecting the Cobrinha style. In addition to traditional BJJ, Cobrinha Las Vegas hosts submission grappling (no-gi) classes, women’s self-defense, and striking programs such as Muay Thai and boxing. The kids’ curriculum includes both BJJ and striking, aiming to develop confidence, discipline, and athleticism from an early age. Classes run throughout the week, and the academy welcomes visitors and drop-ins to open mat sessions. The facility is wheelchair accessible and structured to provide a safe, focused environment for serious training. Professor Hector’s continued involvement with the youth competition team brings a strong competitive drive to the academy, while his teaching philosophy centers on technical growth, perseverance, and fostering champions on and off the mats.
