445 Judah St, San Francisco, CA
World Team USA Muay Thai BJJ & Fitness is rooted in the martial arts legacy of Kru Sam Phimsoutham, who has been teaching and developing fighters in San Francisco since the early 1990s. Kru Sam’s background in Muay Boran and Lerdrit runs deep—his father was a trainer and referee at Lumpini, and his own journey began at age four. After immigrating to the U.S., Kru Sam trained under Master Toddy for a decade, earning his Kru certification and refining his teaching methods. Since bringing Muay Thai to the Bay Area, he has guided multiple generations of fighters and built a lasting presence in the local martial arts scene. While World Team USA is best known for its Muay Thai roots, the academy also offers a full schedule of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for adults, including both gi and no-gi classes, as well as MMA-focused sessions. The BJJ program welcomes drop-ins and provides open training times, giving students the chance to develop their technique in a flexible format. Classes are structured to accommodate different experience levels and training goals, with an emphasis on practical, real-world application. The facility offers wheelchair accessibility and maintains a busy weekly schedule that covers Muay Thai, kickboxing, BJJ, and MMA. Programs are available to men, women, and children, and private training is also an option. The teaching philosophy emphasizes not only technical skill, but also the development of discipline, confidence, and self-respect—values that have shaped the academy’s approach for over two decades.
