Tenzan Jiu Jitsu is led by Professor Keith Bookman, a Seattle native who grew up training in his father’s martial arts dojo—the same space where the academy now operates. Keith earned his black belt under Professor Alexandre Ferreira Santos at Gracie Barra South Austin and advanced to first-degree black belt with Professors Carlos Sievert and Rodrigo Lopes in the Seattle area. Since 2013, he has competed extensively, earning medals at major tournaments such as the American Nationals and Master International Jiu Jitsu Championship of North America, often competing alongside his students. The academy offers instruction for both adults and children, with kids’ classes starting at age five and adult classes for those sixteen and older, including no-gi training options. Keith emphasizes a balanced approach that combines fitness, discipline, and playfulness, tailoring coaching to each student’s individual goals. This philosophy supports learners at all levels as they develop fundamental and advanced Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques. Tenzan Jiu Jitsu maintains a schedule that includes open mat sessions for adults, welcoming drop-ins, and a wheelchair-accessible facility. Located on Aurora Avenue North in Seattle, the school operates six days a week and encourages prospective students to try a class to experience the training environment firsthand.
