Primate Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was started in 2015 by Matt with little more than a deep love for Jiu Jitsu and the drive to build something lasting in Tulsa. The academy began with humble roots and has grown into one of the largest dedicated mat spaces in the area, offering 2,500 square feet of sprung mats designed for safe, focused training. The gym remains true to its original purpose: giving families and individuals a place to build confidence, skill, and resilience through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and grappling arts. The curriculum at Primate blends traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with elements of wrestling and judo, ensuring students are comfortable and effective in every phase of grappling—from stand-up takedowns to ground control and submissions. Kids’ programs start with Play-Jitsu for ages 4–6, using games and movement to introduce the basics, followed by structured gi and no-gi classes for ages 7–12 that focus on self-defense, discipline, and real technique. Teens and adults can progress from beginner-friendly fundamentals to advanced training, with options for both gi and no-gi, as well as a women-only class and open mat sessions. Adults benefit from a flexible schedule, including early morning, midday, and evening classes. Parents can train in fundamentals while their children are on the mat next door, making it easier to share the experience as a family. In addition to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Primate offers Muay Thai classes several times a week, rounding out its approach to practical self-defense and fitness. The facility is clean, organized, and includes two showers and a dedicated exercise area. Drop-ins are welcome, and the academy is wheelchair accessible.
