Cohesion Training Academy HQ was founded and is led by Professor Steve Matias, a Marine Corps combat veteran whose decades of martial arts experience shape the academy’s foundation. Professor Steve holds a 3rd degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Professor John Ouano, as well as a 4th degree black belt in Judo from the United States Judo Association, where he also serves as Vice President. Recognition for his lifelong dedication includes induction into the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2025. His motivation for building Cohesion was to create a space where people from all backgrounds could train and grow together in the martial arts. Training at Cohesion centers on both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Judo, reflecting Professor Steve’s deep roots in both disciplines. Students have access to instruction and open mat time in BJJ, with a program structure that welcomes adults of all experience levels. The academy is a chartered member of the United States Judo Association and maintains active participation in the IBJJF, giving students a direct link to established competition bodies and traditional martial arts standards. The academy’s schedule includes open mat sessions and a range of martial arts programs, with drop-ins welcome for those interested in experiencing the training firsthand. Located in Broken Arrow, Tulsa, Cohesion Training Academy HQ is built on the belief that martial arts can empower individuals—whether their goals are self-defense, competition, fitness, or simply being part of a team.
