Gracie Barra New Mexico Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was founded on the vision of bringing structured, high-level Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to Albuquerque, rooted in the legacy of Master Carlos Gracie Jr. The academy’s leadership comes from Professor Roberto “Tussa” Alencar, a 4th degree black belt and five-time No-Gi World Champion, and Professor Don Ortega, a 3rd degree black belt with a decorated background in both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and wrestling. Both instructors have deep ties to the Gracie Barra system and have shaped the school into a place where technical excellence and personal growth go hand in hand. Training at this academy follows the Gracie Barra curriculum, which offers a clear progression for every student. The GB1 Fundamentals classes introduce beginners to the essential techniques and core concepts of BJJ. For those looking to advance, GB2 and GB3 programs build on that foundation with complex techniques, controlled sparring, and a focus on mastery and leadership. Young students train in the GBK Kids & Teens program, designed to instill discipline, respect, and self-defense skills from an early age. Classes run Monday through Saturday, with options for adults and children, and the school welcomes families who want to train together. The academy’s instructors—including Professors Isaiah Madrid and Lucas Franco—are all Gracie Barra black belts, committed to a safe, detail-oriented approach on the mats. With amenities such as on-site parking, wheelchair accessibility, and dedicated kids’ classes, the school emphasizes practical access for Albuquerque families. Gracie Barra New Mexico stands as a testament to the enduring values of discipline, integrity, and lifelong learning through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
