Gracie Barra Chicago - Jiu Jitsu Classes is anchored by experienced black belts who bring decades of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu tradition to the heart of Chicago. The academy’s leadership includes Professor Carlos Lemos Jr., a 5th degree black belt, world champion, and one of the early pioneers of Gracie Barra in Europe. Professor Carlos Lopez, a 3rd degree black belt with 17 years of teaching experience, is recognized for his work developing Gracie Barra’s presence across Illinois and for his dedication to introducing beginners to the art. Coach Ricardo Polistchuck, an ICP certified instructor from Brazil, rounds out the team, drawing on his training under Professors Lemos, Lopez, and Marcio Feitosa. The class structure at Gracie Barra Chicago follows the established curriculum that has shaped the affiliation worldwide. Adult students progress through three tiers: all-levels fundamentals, higher-level classes that build on core techniques, and advanced sessions aimed at black belt development. For younger students, the academy offers kids’ BJJ classes that focus on the essentials of the art while emphasizing discipline, cooperation, and self-awareness.
