Devine Jiu Jitsu Savannah & Five Star Wrestling has deep roots in Savannah, led by Coach Harry West—a black belt under Scott Devine, who traces his lineage to Master Relson Gracie. Coach West brings over three decades of grappling and wrestling experience, including three high school state wrestling championships, collegiate and international competition, and service as a U.S. Army wrestling champion in Europe. His journey into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu began 15 years ago, and since then, he’s earned more than two dozen IBJJF medals, including gold at the 2019 No-Gi Pan in New York. Alongside his competitive career, Coach West has dedicated years to coaching wrestling at local schools and running clinics throughout the Coastal Empire. Training at Five Star combines traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, no-gi grappling, and a strong wrestling program for both youth and adults. Classes begin for children as young as age four, with gi and no-gi options, and a wrestling club for ages five and up. Adult students have access to both fundamental and advanced gi instruction, as well as dedicated no-gi and wrestling sessions. The academy maintains a focus on core concepts, positional studies, and competitive mindset, preparing students for events like IBJJF tournaments and other major grappling competitions. The weekly schedule includes open mat sessions on Saturdays, which serve as a family day where visitors and kids are welcome on the mats. Private lessons can be arranged directly with the coaching staff. The facility also offers kendo instruction through a local club, extending the range of martial arts available at the Savannah location. Drop-ins are welcomed in person, and families are encouraged to train together, reflecting the academy’s practical and inclusive approach.
