Denver Jiu Jitsu l Rodrigo Salazar Team is led by Professor Rodrigo Salazar, a black belt who trained under Fabio Santos, a former world champion and Red and Black Belt instructor. Originally from Porto Alegre, Brazil, Rodrigo moved to the United States in 2000 and settled in Denver in 2009, where he opened the first Relson Gracie School in the area. With more than 20 years on the mats, Rodrigo has focused much of his career on teaching Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu techniques designed for real-life self-defense situations, including training law enforcement agencies across the US and South America. Classes at Denver Jiu Jitsu emphasize practical application, with a curriculum that covers fundamentals through advanced techniques in the gi. Rodrigo is known for his patient, detail-oriented teaching style, encouraging students to understand the nuances of the art as well as developing critical thinking skills that extend beyond the mat. The school offers adult classes and holds open mat sessions that are open to drop-ins, allowing practitioners to get extra training time and sparring opportunities. The academy operates two locations in Denver, including the DTC facility on East Girard Avenue, which is wheelchair accessible. Beyond Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the team also incorporates elements of Muay Thai and kickboxing, supporting those interested in mixed martial arts.
