Claim this gymClarks University of Martial Arts in Bend, Oregon is guided by a philosophy that martial arts training is about both physical and mental growth, with a strong emphasis on technical development and personal character. Founder Ryan Clark brings decades of experience to the mat, holding a 5th degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Wellington “Megaton” Dias and a deep background in Muay Thai, Jeet Kune Do, and Filipino Martial Arts. As one of Oregon’s early BJJ pioneers, Clark has built an academy where the goal is to shape champions not just in competition, but in life. The core of the academy’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program is structured progression, beginning with fundamental techniques and advancing through intermediate and higher-level classes. Adult students can train in both gi and no-gi formats, with multiple all-levels sessions offered throughout the week and dedicated intermediate/advanced classes for those looking to deepen their skills. Open mat and open gym times allow members to drill, roll, and refine their technique outside of formal instruction. The Muay Thai program is also a staple, with classes for both adults and youth. For young martial artists, Clarks University offers an extensive kids’ curriculum divided by age and experience. Programs start with Little Dragons and Little Pandas for ages 5-6, progressing to Little Ninjas (7-10), Black Belt Club (7-10), Tiger Jiu Jitsu (6-12), and Samurais and Shoguns (11-14). There are also kids’ Muay Thai classes for ages 9-14, ensuring that students of all backgrounds can find a place to start and grow. The teaching team includes specialists in both Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai, supporting families who want a long-term path in martial arts.
