Claim this gymCJJF Hawaii Kai traces its roots to Professor Aldo “Caveirinha” Januário, a fifth-degree black belt who earned his rank after decades dedicated to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Beginning his journey in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, Aldo received his black belt at just 20 years old and chose to focus on teaching rather than competition. His experience forms the foundation of the academy’s approach, emphasizing disciplined instruction and the development of strong character alongside technical skill. Classes at the Hawaii Kai location follow a structured progression from fundamentals to advanced techniques, with separate sessions for adults and children. Young practitioners start as early as age four in the Little Champions program and move through age-specific groups up to juniors. The curriculum includes gi training as the core format, complemented by no-gi classes for kids and open mat sessions for all students. Competition-focused training is available for adults who want to refine their skills in a more intensive setting. The academy’s schedule supports consistent daily practice, with morning fundamentals and advanced classes for adults throughout the week, plus dedicated kids’ classes in the late afternoons. Saturdays provide a mix of no-gi sessions for youth, combined fundamentals and advanced adult classes, and open mat time to drill and spar. This structure reflects the Caveirinha family’s long-standing mission to use Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as a tool for personal growth, fitness, and resilience within the Honolulu community.
