Carlson Gracie Wine Country Jiu Jitsu in Temecula runs a structured program built on the fundamentals and traditions of the Carlson Gracie lineage. The curriculum is organized to guide students from their first day on the mat through advanced training, with dedicated classes for both gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. For adults, the academy offers fundamentals sessions, all-levels classes, and open mat times, as well as a competition team for those looking to test themselves at tournaments. Kids are grouped by age, with both gi and no-gi classes for ages 4–6 and 7–12, and a focused kids’ competition class for those ready to take on a challenge. The schedule also includes women’s only Jiu-Jitsu and yoga/recovery classes. The academy is led by co-owners and head instructors Salvatore Spinelli and Asa Russell, both first-degree black belts under Professor Tom Cronin in the Carlson Gracie tradition. Salvatore brings a lifelong passion for martial arts and a deep commitment to student growth, also drawing from his background in Wing Chun and Filipino martial arts. Asa, a retired Marine with decades of experience across multiple BJJ schools, emphasizes quality fundamental instruction and the positive impact Jiu-Jitsu can have on people of all backgrounds. Both instructors are hands-on with students and maintain a high coach-to-student ratio, ensuring personal attention and development for every member. Founded in 2017, the academy has grown under Sal and Asa’s leadership, with a mission to preserve the core values of the Carlson Gracie system while serving Temecula’s local community. The school welcomes visitors and drop-ins, and the facility is wheelchair accessible. Students are expected to uphold a respectful, disciplined training environment, with clear etiquette and hygiene standards in place.
