Brabo Jiu Jitsu Academy

Brabo Jiu Jitsu Academy in Virginia Beach was founded in 2022 by Professor Oleksandr “Alex” Humen, a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt with a reputation for technical instruction and a hands-on approach. Professor Alex leads a team of coaches with varied backgrounds, all focused on instilling mental toughness and work ethic on and off the mats. The academy’s teaching style reflects Alex’s own journey in the art—expect straightforward coaching, a strong emphasis on fundamentals, and practical training for every student, regardless of experience. Classes at Brabo cover a full range of ages and skill levels. Adults can choose between gi and no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with dedicated fundamentals, advanced no-gi, and positional sparring sessions. Open mats are available for those looking to put techniques to the test in a less structured setting. For younger students, programs start as early as age three with the Tiny Ninjas class, progressing to Little Grapplers and then youth BJJ and wrestling for ages 8–16. Youth advanced training and competition-focused sessions are also part of the schedule, allowing motivated students to challenge themselves further. Brabo’s curriculum is designed to build both confidence and technical skill, with a clear progression from basics to more advanced training. The academy is wheelchair accessible and welcomes drop-ins, making it easy for visitors and newcomers to join a class or open mat.
