10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Saginaw

10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Saginaw operates out of the Michigan Martial Arts Training Center under the guidance of Jonathan Shellnut, a 1st-degree black belt in 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu. Jon brings a diverse grappling background that includes decades of wrestling experience, black belts in both Japanese Jujitsu and Hapkido, as well as knowledge in catch wrestling and judo. He founded the center in 2011 and has since focused on teaching no-gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu along with other martial arts disciplines. The academy’s curriculum centers on 10th Planet Jiu-Jitsu techniques, all taught without the gi, reflecting the system’s original no-gi emphasis. Classes are available for both adults and youth, with separate sessions for kids and adults held throughout the week. Alongside BJJ, the schedule includes wrestling-focused ground survival classes, kickboxing, and Hapkido for multiple age groups, providing a spectrum of martial arts training under one roof. Training sessions emphasize practical grappling and submission skills, with opportunities for private lessons and personal training tailored to individual needs. The facility is wheelchair accessible, and drop-in students are welcome to join classes as their schedules permit. This blend of disciplines and the experienced coaching staff make the gym a place where technical skill and diverse martial arts backgrounds come together in a no-gi format.
