Organized by Tap Cancer Out
October 17, 2026 in Pittsburgh — the Tap Cancer Out BJJ Open pairs competitive jiu-jitsu with charity fundraising for cancer research. All belts are welcome, with the tournament drawing competitors from across western Pennsylvania.
Tap Cancer Out is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2011 that has run gi-only BJJ tournaments across the country since 2012, using competition to raise money for cancer research and support. The organization has backed more than two dozen charity partners, including the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, St. Baldrick's, and PanCAN, and has raised in excess of $7.75 million along the way. The Pittsburgh Open follows IBJJF rules with a few tweaks: rashguards are optional and spats aren't required under the gi, and the bracket runs double elimination. This edition takes place Saturday, October 17, 2026, in Pittsburgh, PA, and it's open to every belt. Brown and black belts compete for free, and any competitor who raises $250 or more toward the cause also competes at no cost; standard pre-registration runs roughly $70. On the mat, matches run under a points-based ruleset that follows familiar IBJJF-style scoring conventions, so competitors coming from IBJJF or similar events will recognize the point values and structure. Review Tap Cancer Out's published rulebook for the specific modifications in effect for your division.
Always confirm the official rulebook before you compete — organizations update rules between seasons. See the official event page for current rules.
