The NEWBREED CHARLOTTE SAMURAI SERIES will take place on August 29, 2026, at Carolina Courts in Indian Trail, NC. This event features both gi and no-gi divisions.
The NEWBREED Charlotte Samurai Series brings NEWBREED's athlete-safety-first rules to the Charlotte metro, running gi and no-gi divisions side by side under one roof. NEWBREED (also called NJJF) is known for protecting its youngest competitors — Youth Group 1 (ages 4-11) skips submissions entirely — while still giving teens and adults full, competitive brackets. Gi competitors are grouped by current belt rank in any gi color, while no-gi divisions sort competitors into Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced skill tiers so newcomers don't get stuck across the mat from a seasoned veteran. This edition takes place Saturday, August 29, 2026 at Carolina Courts in Indian Trail, just southeast of Charlotte, and welcomes competitors of every age and experience level from across the Carolinas. Registration is handled through NEWBREED's Smoothcomp event page (linked from newbreedusa.com); the standard sign-up window closes the Tuesday before the event, with a final deadline the day before at 5pm.
NEWBREED (the NEWBREED Jiu-Jitsu Federation) is a US tournament circuit whose federation was established in 2012. It runs 100+ tournaments a year nationwide with kids-through-adult gi and no-gi divisions and digital bracket management, culminating in The Ultimate Grappler (TUG), its elite no-gi absolute finale.
NEWBREED runs a long-established tournament circuit (including its Ultimate Challenge events) with gi and no-gi divisions for kids and adults, grouped by age, weight, and experience level. It's a high-volume regional circuit that many competitors use for regular local competition.
NEWBREED publishes its own rulebook with an explicit emphasis on athlete safety, and technique legality scales with age and division level. Read the current NJJF rules before competing — division structures and legal techniques are spelled out there.
