Event Description
Grappling Industries Cheyenne runs on the promotion's own points-and-advantages rulebook, styled after IBJJF scoring with a submission-only track offered at some stops, across divisions for kids through seniors in both gi and no-gi. Adults, masters, and seniors can add an Absolute bracket for an extra fee on top of the standard belt- and weight-class divisions. The tournament is set for September 19, 2026 at BEAST, 2900 Sunflower Rd, Cheyenne, Wyoming. Sign-up is online-only through Smoothcomp and closes four days before the event, with no day-of registration — though spectators can still pay at the door. Gi competitors must register at their current rank; no-gi competitors may register up one belt level.

About Grappling Industries
Grappling Industries is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and submission-wrestling tournament organizer founded in 2011 in Montreal, Canada, by David Aguzzi. It's built around a proprietary Round Robin format that guarantees competitors multiple matches per division instead of single-elimination brackets, and now runs 200+ gi and no-gi events a year across North America, Latin America, the UK, Europe, Australia, the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.
Rules
Grappling Industries is best known for its round robin format: instead of single elimination, competitors in a division face multiple opponents — at least two matches guaranteed in the smallest divisions and typically four or more as divisions grow, with larger divisions splitting into pools that feed semifinals and finals. Placement comes from win-loss record, and a submission win carries extra weight in the standings, so finishing matches matters more than squeaking by on points.
Within each match, scoring follows IBJJF-based rules — the familiar positional point values and advantages apply. Events run both gi and no-gi divisions on the same day for kids and adults, which combined with the guaranteed-matches format makes these events popular for competitors who want mat time, not a one-loss exit.
