Organized by Big Palm Sumo
Panama City Beach, FL hosts the 2nd Annual Big Palm Sumo Championship on August 22, 2026, a sumo wrestling competition open to all levels in its second year on the calendar.
The 2nd Annual Big Palm Sumo Championship brings authentic sumo wrestling to the Florida Panhandle, sanctioned by the United States Sumo Federation and organized by Florida Sumo Club, the Panama City-based sumo program founded in 2017 by Cornelius Booker. It's an open-weight format where competitors square off in traditional push-and-throw sumo contests — no gi, no ground grappling, just balance, leverage, and explosive power at the line. Set for August 22, 2026 in Panama City Beach, FL, the event follows the inaugural 2025 edition and is open to competitors of varying experience, from curious first-timers to athletes with a background in wrestling, judo, or grappling looking to try a different combat sport. Registration is available through the tournament's Smoothcomp event page; check with Florida Sumo Club or the USSF for any specific gear or rule requirements before competing.
