West Texas Jiu Jitsu Academy is led by Roger del Campo, a black belt with more than two decades on the mats. He earned his rank under Professor David Stegman, a 4th Degree Black Belt, and is recognized by Rickson Gracie and the Jiu Jitsu Global Federation. Roger has been teaching for over ten years and opened the gym in Lubbock to bring authentic Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instruction rooted in this lineage. Assisting him is Fernando Mena, a brown belt with nine years of training and a background as an electrical engineer and Texas Tech University alumnus. Classes at the academy focus on mastery of technique combined with live sparring, offering morning, noon, and evening sessions to fit varied schedules. Students spend equal time drilling fundamentals and engaging in intense rolling, with instruction tailored for all levels—from newcomers to advanced grapplers. The gym also supports law enforcement through its Adopt A Cop BJJ program, providing free training to officers up to blue belt rank. Open mat sessions on Saturdays provide two hours for students to sharpen skills and drill freely. The academy welcomes drop-ins without pressure to join, allowing visitors to experience the training style firsthand. This approach reflects the school’s emphasis on consistent technical development and practical application, grounded in a respected lineage and decades of coaching experience.
