Tradition Jiu Jitsu Academy

Tradition Jiu Jitsu Academy is known in Port St. Lucie for its family-driven approach to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, led by black belts Valeria and Mateo Nunez. The Nunez couple bring years of training, competition, and coaching experience to every class, with Valeria earning her black belt under Gabriel Procópio Fonseca and a lineage that traces back through Roger Coelho and Carlson Gracie. Both instructors are IBJJF certified referees, and Valeria’s background includes a decade of teaching children and women, alongside personal training credentials. Their academy is rooted in the belief that Jiu-Jitsu builds confidence and character for students of all ages, on and off the mats. Students at Tradition Jiu Jitsu Academy can expect a structured program that starts with the basics and moves toward advanced techniques. Kids are grouped into “Little Troopers” and “Junior Troopers” classes, while adults have options for midday, evening, and open mat sessions. The curriculum covers both gi and no-gi formats, and includes a Women’s Only Jiu-Jitsu class as well as a “Take Em Down Tuesday” session focused on takedowns. The academy also offers a homeschool Jiu-Jitsu program and welcomes drop-ins for most classes. The school is based in the heart of the Tradition area and has become a training home for families, with a focus on personal growth as much as technical skill. Valeria and Mateo continue to train and compete themselves, ensuring their teaching stays current. The environment is shaped by their hands-on involvement and commitment to helping students—especially children—become stronger, more confident, and disciplined through the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
