Claim this gymAt Team Rhino Gracie BJJ, students walk into one of Idaho’s oldest Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu schools—a place where the curriculum and daily training still reflect the vision of founder Keith Owen. Classes in Meridian start as early as age three with the Baby Rhinos, and progress through structured programs for Mighty Rhinos, Lil’ Rhinos, Youth Crash (ages 7–11), Tweens, and adults. Parents see their kids learning in age-specific groups while adult students can expect clear fundamentals and one-on-one attention from a large team of instructors. Keith Owen, a fourth-degree black belt under Master Pedro Sauer, opened Team Rhino in 1993 when Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was almost unknown in Idaho. He built the school around technical precision and practical self-defense, staying away from a sport or MMA focus. After Professor Owen’s passing in 2022, his wife Shirlane and a team of about 20 instructors have carried on his approach, keeping the academy’s legacy as the state’s longest-running BJJ school. Training at Team Rhino is rooted in gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with each program tailored to the needs of the group—whether it’s a four-year-old starting with basic movements or an adult looking for structured progression. The academy hosts open mats, intro classes for every age, and offers drop-ins for visitors. With over three decades in Meridian, Team Rhino continues to teach BJJ as a practical skill for all ages, grounded in the tradition passed down from Pedro Sauer to Keith Owen and his students.
