Team Doan Jiu Jitsu & Fitness was founded by Professor Si Doan, an Alliance black belt whose journey in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu began in 2007. Professor Si earned his black belt in 2021 under Grandmaster Romero “Jacaré” Cavalcanti and Leonardo Nogueira, carrying forward a lineage that traces directly to the roots of the art through Carlos Gracie, Helio Gracie, and Rolls Gracie. Before opening Team Doan, Si trained extensively under renowned instructors such as Ruben “Cobrinha” Charles and Lucas Lepri, and remains an active competitor with multiple Atlanta Open and Pan American titles. His vision for the academy centers on building champions both on and off the mats, bringing high-level BJJ instruction to Gainesville while uniting students through martial arts. The academy offers a full Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu program for adults and youth, structured around both gi and no-gi formats. Adult classes include fundamentals and all-level sessions in both gi and no-gi, providing a clear path for progression whether someone is new to the art or preparing for competition. Young students can begin as early as age four, with separate gi and no-gi classes for kids and teens. The coaching team also includes instructors like Tyler Vermilya and Chris Scott, who contribute their competition experience and passion for developing students at every stage. Beyond BJJ, Team Doan features a robust striking program led by Coach Michael Harner, whose background spans Muay Thai, American Kickboxing, and boxing. Adults can train striking fundamentals, advanced techniques, and cardio kickboxing, while kids have access to kickboxing classes designed for ages 6–12. Strength and conditioning sessions round out the schedule, and the facility is designed to be accessible and welcoming, with ample parking and wheelchair access. Drop-ins are welcome, and the focus remains on personal growth, technical skill, and a supportive environment for all who train.
