Claim this gymSubmission Arts Academy opened its doors in Barrie at 112 Commerce Park Dr and is led by Professor Spencer Lalonde, an IBJJF-certified Third Degree Black Belt. The academy identifies connections to Rodrigo Munduruca and Jorge Britto in Spencer’s lineage and regularly hosts visiting instructor Nathan Dos Santos from Toronto BJJ. That lineage and visiting-teacher structure shape how classes are taught and how the black-belt staff work with students. Instruction covers adults, children and family classes with a staff roster that includes coaches Adam Laroche, Bill Matthews, Deline Cheth, Trevor Reid-Sneath and youth coaches Rayne and Gryphon. Coaches’ backgrounds are specific: Laroche and Matthews are listed as black belts under Spencer Lalonde, Matthews brings a freestyle-wrestling and catch-wrestling background with an emphasis on No-Gi submission wrestling and leg locks, and Trevor Reid-Sneath supports both kids and adult programming as a blue belt under Spencer. The academy presents itself as family-oriented and notes Spencer’s grappling roots in amateur wrestling beginning in 1990 and his experience coaching and cornering professional mixed-martial artists. Practical contact details on the site include a phone number (705-722-5487), email (info@submissionartsacademy.com) and the academy website, submissionartsacademy.com, for specifics on class times and registration.
