South Texas Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, LLC is led by Professor Victor Garza, a Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt with a background that spans training under Professor Ricardo Guimaraes of Gracie Humaita in California and Professor Mathias Meister in New Orleans. After further study in Rio de Janeiro, Garza established the academy in Edinburg, Texas, bringing a philosophy centered on discipline and structure as pathways to achievement. What started as a solo effort has grown into a team of instructors dedicated to developing both youth and adults into athletes and leaders through BJJ. The academy offers structured classes divided by age and skill level. Children ages 4-8 participate in the Little Learners program, focusing on coordination, agility, and foundational techniques, combined with lessons in discipline and respect. Older kids, 9-13, train in the Young Champs program, which introduces advanced positions and competition preparation alongside self-defense and anti-bullying education. Adults train in fundamentals and advanced classes, with the fundamentals class designed to build essential BJJ movements for beginners and the advanced class emphasizing competition-oriented techniques and less common scenarios. South Texas Brazilian Jiu Jitsu also supports military veterans through a noon class offered free of charge, affiliated with Veterans Jiu-Jitsu and the We Defy Foundation. This program provides a stress-free environment for veterans and active service members, combining camaraderie with the physical and mental benefits of BJJ. The academy’s facility is wheelchair accessible, and drop-in students are welcome to join training sessions, reflecting an openness to the broader community while maintaining a focus on personal growth through Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
