Claim this gymSJJA Jiu-Jitsu Academy Prestons was opened in 2021 by a local family who wanted to create a true home for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Prestons, NSW. Inspired by their own journey—starting with Will’s early fascination with martial arts and Nikki’s later discovery of BJJ as a parent—they set out to build a place where families and individuals alike could feel genuinely welcome. The academy is part of the SJJA team, founded by Bruno Almeida Alves, a multiple-time world champion and black belt under Zé Radiola of ZR Team, who moved to Sydney in 2011 to share his vision for Jiu-Jitsu built on excellence, resilience and community. Training at SJJA Prestons follows the coaching methodology developed by Bruno Alves, blending Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and self-defence fundamentals with a structured progression for all ages and abilities. The academy offers classes for kids, beginners, advanced students and women, with a focus on building both technical skill and personal confidence. The timetable runs Monday to Friday from mid-afternoon into the evening, and Saturday mornings, making it accessible for families and working adults. Programs are designed to support students whether they are interested in fitness, self-defence, or competition, with an emphasis on teamwork and personal growth. SJJA Prestons is committed to fostering a family-friendly environment where students of all backgrounds are encouraged to persevere, take chances, and develop resilience on and off the mats. The school’s approach is grounded in the belief that the pressure of training brings out untapped strength—reflected in their diamond symbol and the values that underpin every class. The facility welcomes new members and returning practitioners alike, aiming to be a second home for anyone wanting to learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the Liverpool area of Sydney.
