Sharkbait's MMA & Jiu Jitsu Academy in Blue Springs, MO is led by owner and head coach Anthony “Sharkbait” Gutierrez, a veteran of 36 MMA fights and more than 100 Jiu Jitsu competitions. After a long and active career in combat sports, Gutierrez created the academy to share his knowledge and build a training environment grounded in real-world experience. His leadership is complemented by a team of instructors with deep roots in both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and the local martial arts scene. The Jiu Jitsu program is anchored by Anthony Bell, a first-degree black belt under Renato Tavares and IBJJF-certified competitor with major titles in both gi and no-gi divisions. Bell’s teaching blends practical self-defense with high-level sport grappling, and he’s recognized for making complex concepts accessible to students of all backgrounds. The coaching staff also includes Landon Heriford, a purple belt who brings a mix of wrestling, judo, and international Jiu Jitsu experience, further enriching the academy’s instructional approach. Sharkbait’s offers classes for kids ages 4–13 and adults 13 and up, with morning and evening options to suit different schedules. In addition to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the academy runs kickboxing classes and open mat sessions, and welcomes both casual students and those interested in competition. The facility is wheelchair accessible and emphasizes a supportive, growth-focused atmosphere where students are encouraged to challenge themselves and build lasting skills.
