Semper Fortis Jiu Jitsu

Semper Fortis Jiu Jitsu in San Antonio is led by Saad Al-Aziz, a third-degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under 8th degree Coral Belt Luiz Palhares. Saad brings decades of martial arts experience, including black belts in Hapkido and Luta Livre, and served 33 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring as a Lieutenant Commander. Alongside him is Suay Al-Aziz, a second-degree black belt under Master Palhares and one of only two women to receive that honor from him. Suay also holds a black belt in Judo and is a Level 3 Ginastica Natural instructor certified by Alvaro Romano, with a strong background in teaching women's self-defense and fitness seminars across the country. The academy’s approach to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is rooted in traditional lineage, with classes structured for adults and children. Students can expect instruction that draws from both gi and no-gi grappling, as well as the integration of Judo and Ginastica Natural for movement and conditioning. The school emphasizes the value of martial arts for both self-defense and personal development, reflecting the founders’ belief in the lifelong benefits of training for mind, body, and spirit. Semper Fortis is also an official training center for the We Defy Foundation, supporting mentally and physically combat-disabled veterans through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The facility is wheelchair accessible, and the program welcomes families, with both Saad and Suay actively involved in teaching and mentoring students of all backgrounds.
