Revolution BJJ

Revolution BJJ in Richmond, Virginia, was founded by Andrew Smith and Trey Martin with the goal of offering a broad range of martial arts training under one roof. Head Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu instructor Tyler Smith, a second-degree BJJ black belt and orange belt in Kodokan judo, has been part of the academy since 2008. His long experience and steady presence shape the curriculum, which blends traditional gi training with no-gi classes and competition preparation. Students at Revolution BJJ progress through a structured gi program that includes fundamentals, intermediate, and advanced levels, alongside specialized classes like lapel guard and sweeps drills. No-gi instruction covers leg lock fundamentals and advanced leg locks, reflecting a balanced approach to submission grappling. The academy also dedicates time to competition classes in both gi and no-gi formats, supporting those who want to test their skills in tournaments. Open mat sessions are available regularly, allowing practitioners to drill or spar outside of formal classes. Beyond BJJ, Revolution BJJ offers wrestling and judo classes for adults and kids, with judo takedown drills designed for younger students who have some experience.
