Raptor Jiu Jitsu

Raptor Jiu Jitsu in Edmond, Oklahoma was founded by Coach Derrick “A-Game” Adkins, whose journey began on the local wrestling mats before he transitioned to professional fighting and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. After winning the Oklahoma high school state wrestling title in 2007 and wrestling at the University of Central Oklahoma, Derrick built a career across MMA, boxing, and kickboxing, including over thirty professional bouts and a run as FCF Lightweight Champion. Earning his black belt under Carlos Machado Jiu-Jitsu in 2021, he opened Raptor with the goal of providing structured, principle-driven training for all ages, rooted in discipline, respect, focus, and integrity. Classes at Raptor follow a clear curriculum for both Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and kickboxing, with programs designed for kids as young as three, teens, and adults. The Jiu-Jitsu program is split into gi and no-gi offerings, with age-specific groups: Little Raptors (ages 3–7), Young Raptors (7–12), teens, and adults. Adult students can progress through fundamentals, leg lock-focused sessions, competition classes, and open mat. No-gi and gi formats run side by side, and there is a dedicated homeschool Jiu-Jitsu option. Women’s-only classes are available, and students can cross-train in kickboxing, which emphasizes technical drills and controlled sparring. Coach Derrick’s approach draws on more than a decade of teaching in Edmond and curriculum development for major BJJ affiliations. He remains active as a coach, offering private lessons, online instruction, and guidance for competitors at all levels. Raptor Jiu Jitsu encourages drop-ins and makes it easy for new students to start, with every first class structured as a hands-on introduction. The academy also holds a regular community open mat, welcoming visitors from across the local martial arts scene.
