MindWeaver Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

MindWeaver Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is led by Joshua Macri, a black belt under Professor Rich Sab with roots dating back to 2004. Josh’s journey began with no-gi training in Chapel Hill before expanding into gi under instructors connected to the Royce Gracie lineage. After over a decade training and competing within that tradition, he found a new path at Open Source Jiu-Jitsu, where he also developed his teaching skills, particularly with kids. MindWeaver grew from that experience into its own Mars Hill home, shaped by Josh’s approach that blends technical detail with a relaxed, fun atmosphere. Classes at MindWeaver focus on clear, detailed instruction across all levels, emphasizing that learning Jiu-Jitsu doesn’t have to be rigid or overly traditional to be effective. Josh’s philosophy encourages students to enjoy their time on the mats without sacrificing progression. The academy offers private lessons and personal training alongside regular classes, accommodating practitioners who want focused development. Kids’ programs are part of the curriculum, reflecting Josh’s commitment to nurturing growth both on and off the mats. Beyond Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Josh brings experience as a kickboxing instructor and MMA competitor, broadening the school’s perspective on martial arts training. The facility is wheelchair accessible, and the culture embraces acceptance and individuality rather than strict adherence to martial arts customs.
