Outer Heaven Jiu Jitsu Club was founded in 2024 by twin brothers Kevin and Brian Mahecha with a simple goal: to serve the highest level of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to anyone willing to put in the work. Kevin Mahecha, a third degree black belt under Jonatas Gurgel and an active competitor with medals from IBJJF Worlds, Pan Ams, Europeans, and the Abu Dhabi World Pro, brings a competitor’s mindset to the mats. His philosophy centers on sharing technical depth and competition-tested strategy, creating an environment where students of all backgrounds are guided to reach their potential. The club’s schedule in Fort Lauderdale reflects this teaching approach, with a clear progression from fundamentals to advanced classes. Adults can train in both gi and no-gi formats, starting with focused fundamentals sessions that emphasize core concepts and sound technique. Advanced classes in both gi and no-gi push students further, introducing high-level tactics and live training modeled after what works on the competition scene. Beginners are never left behind, but advanced students are consistently challenged to refine their skills. Younger grapplers have a place here as well, with gi classes for kids ages 5–12 and a dedicated teen class for ages 10–15. Weekend open mats are available and free for blue belts and above, offering a chance for higher ranks to experiment and share knowledge in a less structured setting. The club’s facility is wheelchair accessible, and drop-ins are welcome across the board. At Outer Heaven, the Mahecha brothers have built a training ground where technical progression and hard work go hand in hand.
