New State Fitness / NOLABJJ Metairie

New State Fitness / NOLABJJ Metairie centers its Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program around a daily schedule that includes open mat sessions for adults, allowing practitioners to drill techniques and spar in a flexible setting. Located on the Interstate 10 Service Road in Metairie, the gym offers training in both gi and no-gi formats, alongside kickboxing classes for kids and adults. The facility is wheelchair accessible, supporting a broad range of students. The academy was founded and is led by Charles Haymon, a black belt under Matthias Meister with extensive competitive experience in BJJ, judo, and sambo. Haymon’s background includes national titles and international competition, reflecting a deep commitment to martial arts that extends beyond sport into personal development. He brings insights gathered from training at over 60 gyms across 35 states, emphasizing technique, discipline, and the mental aspects of combat arts. Students at New State Fitness progress through age-appropriate classes starting with little kids (ages 4-6), moving to big kids (7+), and then adults. The curriculum includes fundamentals and advanced concepts, with a focus on self-defense, physical conditioning, and mental resilience. Kickboxing and sambo are also integrated into the offerings, rounding out a martial arts education grounded in practical skills and competitive readiness.
