Claim this gymMushin Academy of Martial Arts in Battle Creek is built around a traditional approach to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with a clear focus on self-defense and practical grappling skills. The academy’s BJJ classes emphasize gi training, where students work on grips, positional control, and submissions using the jacket. This foundation supports a methodical progression through fundamental techniques and live rolling. Kids and youth have their own dedicated classes, separate from the adult sessions, allowing age-appropriate instruction and development. Beyond Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Mushin Academy offers a range of martial arts programs including Muay Thai Kickboxing, Judo, and MMA rounds. Judo classes complement the grappling curriculum by focusing on throws and takedowns, while Muay Thai develops striking skills through pad work, bag drills, and partner exercises. This variety gives students the chance to cross-train across multiple disciplines, expanding their skill set beyond ground fighting. The schedule includes morning and lunchtime BJJ classes, evening sessions, open gym times, and open mat rolling on Sundays, providing several options for regular training. Drop-ins are welcome, which suits visitors or those coming from nearby towns like Marshall or Kalamazoo. The academy’s mix of programs and consistent class times reflect its aim to serve both dedicated grapplers and martial artists looking for a broader training experience in Battle Creek.
