4612 Billingsley Blvd Suite 36, Midland, TX
Midland BJJ is owned and led by Brad “Gordinho” Barnes, who began training in 2001 and earned his black belt at the 2015 Masters World Championships. Barnes has also coached high-level MMA athletes, giving the West Texas academy a head-instructor background that reaches beyond traditional sport jiu jitsu. The school uses a structured curriculum from white belt through black belt and currently offers gi and no-gi jiu jitsu, fundamentals, kids training, wrestling, MMA and open mat. That progression system is a meaningful practical detail for newer students because the academy is not relying on a random-technique format while experienced students still have room for competition and cross-training. For grapplers in Midland and Odessa, the academy stands out most for continuity: Barnes has spent more than two decades in the sport and built one of the region’s established martial-arts programs around his own coaching. Students can develop inside a clear belt progression while still having access to wrestling and MMA perspectives.
