Marco Nascimento Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in San Mateo is run by Professor Marco Nascimento, one of the most experienced and accomplished practitioners teaching in the Bay Area. Marco, a 7th-degree Coral Belt under Adilson “Bitta” Lima, has been training in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since age 17 and earned his black belt in just six and a half years as Bitta’s first black belt. His competition record spans over 300 tournaments with more than 150 gold medals, including Pan American titles and international victories as recently as 2018. Marco remains active both on the mats and in competition, a rare distinction for someone of his rank. The academy is truly a family affair, with Marco teaching alongside his wife, Christina—herself a decorated competitor and black belt—and their son Graham, who began training at age four and has medaled at major IBJJF events in both gi and no-gi divisions. Professor Juan Souza, a 3rd-degree black belt and accomplished competitor, rounds out the core instruction team. Students at MNBJJ have the opportunity to learn directly from instructors with decades of experience at the highest levels of the sport, and private lessons are available with each of these coaches. Training at the academy covers a full progression: adult classes for all belt levels, advanced and beginner sessions, women’s and self-defense classes, and a robust kids’ program. Competition-focused training is available on Sundays, and open mat sessions welcome visitors. The school is wheelchair accessible and maintains a steady schedule of seminars, events, and seasonal kids’ camps. Marco Nascimento BJJ has become a fixture in San Mateo’s Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu scene, offering technical instruction rooted in deep lineage and a passion for daily, hands-on teaching.
