10th Planet Jiu Jitsu San Mateo is led by Adam Sachnoff, a 2nd-degree black belt under Eddie Bravo and a decorated no-gi competitor. Adam’s story is woven into the fabric of the academy: once weighing over 300 pounds and struggling for direction, he found his purpose on the mats, lost more than 80 pounds, and went on to win championships at the ADCC North American Trials, the Onnit Invitational, and multiple IBJJF No-Gi Worlds Masters podiums. Since opening the doors in San Mateo, Adam has focused on sharing the art that transformed his own life, guiding students of all backgrounds to build confidence and skill. The academy follows the 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu no-gi system, emphasizing grappling and submission techniques without the traditional gi. Adults train in all-levels classes, with both beginners and experienced practitioners working side by side under black belt instruction. For younger athletes, the school offers a structured youth program: Tiny Jitsu for ages 3–5 (with parent participation), Mini Jitsu for ages 6–9, Junior Jitsu for ages 10–15, and a Kids Competition Class for those ready to test themselves further. Coach Ian Sulcer, himself promoted to black belt by Adam, is known for his patient, structured approach with kids, helping even the most energetic students develop discipline and focus. Classes are held in a clean, modern facility with ample mat space, showers, and parking. Open mat sessions allow for extra training and community connection. Drop-ins are welcome, and the school’s programs are built to be accessible, whether someone is stepping onto the mats for the first time or looking to sharpen their competitive edge.
