M1 Combat Academy

M1 Combat Academy is guided by Jeff Cook and Chuck Gatti, both black belts in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu awarded under John Crouch at the MMA Lab in Glendale, Arizona. Jeff’s martial arts journey began during his service as a Green Beret, where he started training BJJ on Bagram Airfield in Afghanistan in 2007. The academy opened in Surprise, Arizona, in 2023, building on years of military and grappling experience that shape its approach to training. The academy offers a range of programs that extend beyond traditional Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Alongside BJJ classes, M1 Combat Academy includes striking, youth wrestling, women’s only sessions, and Close Quarter Battle (CQB) training, reflecting its roots in combative and self-defense disciplines. Kids’ classes are part of the schedule as well, providing age-appropriate instruction to develop skills from an early stage. Students can take advantage of open mat sessions for extra drilling and sparring outside of regular class times. The academy’s blend of military-influenced training and grappling arts creates a diverse curriculum, emphasizing practical application and progression through various levels of skill. Located at 11340 West Bell Road in Surprise, M1 Combat Academy maintains a focus on both martial arts fundamentals and tactical combat techniques.
